Measure D–a sales tax that will fund transportation and environmental projects–was approved by two-thirds of the county voters on November 8th. Measure D was supported by the Land Trust of Santa Cruz, and we spoke with Land Trust President Terry Corwin about some of what the money will bring to Santa Cruz county.

The International Coastal Cleanup Day is Sat Sept 17th. It’s the largest volunteer event for the environment on the planet. Locally, the cleanup is spearheaded by Save Our Shores. We spoke with Ryan Kallabis and Melanie Franklin about what volunteers can expect.
Kaleb Goff, an undergraduate recreation leader at the UCSC Recreation Department, led a small group of UCSC staff in search of “Wet Wonders: Lichen, Fungi, Salamanders.” The walk headed up Jordan Gulch on the UCSC campus, and uncovered lots that most people overlook.
